dubois county cares

more about

Dubois County CARES is a group of leaders in the community who wish to reduce youth alcohol and drug use by Dubois County youth in grades 6 - 12.

We have found success in achieving results by conducting an annual Community Assessment to learn about the root causes and local conditions that increase youth substance use risks in our community. Assessment results guide us to create a Strategic and Action Plan to decrease risk factors and increase protective factors. Coalition workgroups carry out the activities in our Strategic and Action Plan.

We continuously educate the community on the detriments of youth substance use, educate adults on the detriments of providing alcohol to youth, provide skills building and encouragement for parents/guardians to talk with youth about substance abuse. Additionally we collaborate with and support partner agencies and work with local lawmakers to create and sustain a community that does not tolerate underage drinking and drug use.

We are a community that supports a sustanable alchohol and drug-free culture for our youth.

a look back at our history

we got our start in 2014

In October 2014, a group of community leaders came together to discuss ways that Dubois County can empower youth to be alcohol and drug-free.

The county already had two organizations working on the issue of substance use of all ages: The Dubois County Substance Abuse Council and Dubois County Public Health Partnership. Neither group was prepared to focus their activities solely on youth. The organizations agred to form a new coalition, Dubois County CARES, that would work towards creating a healthier community for youth through the reduction of youth substance use.

today, tomorrow and beyond

Since we have implemented programs and skill building activities within the schools, the usage by our high school age students has dramatically decreased. We continue on ways to inform and empower our youth to make healthy choices for themselves.

How are we funded?

We started receiving funding from the federal Drug FREE Communities program in 2017. CARES is also financially supported by Dubois County Community Foundation and generous local donors. Would you like more information on donating? We would love to talk >
